In brief
- Ode with Anthropic is a standalone AI services company launched through a partnership of Anthropic, Blackstone and Hellman & Friedman, backed by a consortium that includes Apollo, General Atlantic, GIC, Goldman Sachs, Leonard Green and Sequoia; Anthropic announced it without a name on May 4, 2026 and the Ode name arrived on July 151,2.
- It is built on Fractional AI, acquired in May 2026 on undisclosed terms; Chris Taylor is CEO and Eddie Siegel is CTO, the same roles they held as Fractional AI co-founders3,2.
- Its target is mid-size companies. A typical engagement starts with a small team learning where Claude can help most, then building systems with Anthropic Applied AI staff working alongside Ode's engineers1.
- No release we read states Ode's funding, valuation or ownership split. The $965 billion figure is Anthropic's own valuation from its May 28, 2026 Series H, not Ode's2,4.
- Its job board listed 14 open roles on October 23, 2026, including forward deployed product managers at an estimated $200K to $275K in total cash compensation, each flagged as offering equity with no equity value given; other postings, such as the principal roles, do not say whether their range is base or total cash5,6,7.

The desk, Oct. 23: Ode with Anthropic (Ode) is a standalone enterprise AI services company that Anthropic, Blackstone and Hellman & Friedman (H&F) launched in 2026 to build Claude-based systems for mid-size companies1,2. Anthropic announced the venture without a name on May 4, 2026, the venture announced its Fractional AI acquisition on May 21, and the Ode name arrived on July 151,3,2. Chris Taylor is CEO and Eddie Siegel is CTO2. None of the releases we read says how much money is behind it.
This explainer uses primary documents only: releases from Anthropic, H&F, Ode and OpenAI, plus job postings from Ode and Anthropic. The Anthropic, H&F and Ode pages were read on October 23, 2026; OpenAI's page blocks automated readers, so we checked it against an archived copy dated October 16, 2026. Where the documents are silent or differ, we say so. For the competing venture, see our explainer on the OpenAI Deployment Company; a comparison is below.
Who backs Ode with Anthropic?
Anthropic's May 4 post names Anthropic, Blackstone, H&F and Goldman Sachs as the organizations announcing the new company, and says a consortium including General Atlantic, Leonard Green, Apollo Global Management, GIC and Sequoia Capital also backs it1. The July 15 release, issued by Anthropic, Blackstone and H&F, describes Ode as launched through a partnership between those three and a consortium that includes Apollo, General Atlantic, GIC, Goldman Sachs, Leonard Green & Partners and Sequoia2.
That means Goldman Sachs is one of four organizations named as announcing the company on May 4, while the May 21 and July 15 releases list it inside the investor consortium instead1,3,2. None of the documents we read explains the change, so we cannot say whether Goldman's role shifted or the wording was simplified.
Two more details help place the backers. Rodney Zemmel, Global Head of the Operating Team at Blackstone, is described in Ode's August 20 release as an Ode board member8. And three of Ode's named backers, Blackstone, GIC and Sequoia Capital, are also named among the investors in Anthropic's $65 billion Series H, announced May 28, 2026: Sequoia among the lead investors, GIC among the co-leads and Blackstone among the significant investors4. That overlap is a matter of record, not a statement about governance: the releases give no ownership shares or board seats.
How did an unnamed venture become Ode?
| Date (2026) | What happened |
|---|---|
| March 12 | Anthropic commits an initial $100 million to its Claude Partner Network for the year and says it is scaling its partner-facing team fivefold, including dedicated Applied AI engineers for partners on live customer deals9 |
| May 4 | Anthropic, Blackstone, H&F and Goldman Sachs announce a new AI services company for mid-sized companies; the post gives it no name1 |
| May 21 | The venture announces its acquisition of Fractional AI; terms are not disclosed3 |
| May 28 | Anthropic announces a $65 billion Series H at a $965 billion post-money valuation. This is Anthropic's valuation, not Ode's4 |
| July 15 | The firm launches under its official name, Ode with Anthropic2 |
| July 20 | Ode and Baker Tilly announce an initiative on AI systems for Baker Tilly's advisory, tax and assurance businesses10 |
| August 13 | Ode and PointClickCare announce a strategic partnership on AI-enabled workflows in healthcare11 |
| August 20 | Ode announces its acquisition of Casper Studios; the release states no price8 |
The May 4 post also says the new company will join the Claude Partner Network, Anthropic's program for firms that help enterprises adopt Claude1,9. In that framing Ode adds delivery capacity for Claude, though unlike the other members it was announced by Anthropic itself.
Who runs Ode, and what is Fractional AI?
Fractional AI is an applied AI services firm in San Francisco, founded in 2024 by Chris Taylor, Eddie Siegel and Travis May3. The May 21 release says its team would anchor the new company's operations and work with Anthropic's Applied AI organization from day one3. The releases give no role for Travis May.
By July, Taylor was CEO of Ode and Siegel its CTO, the titles they held at Fractional AI2. Ode says many of its employees are former technical founders and that most hold advanced degrees with a decade or more of hands-on experience in engineering and AI2. That is the company describing its own staff, and no release gives a headcount. Garvan Doyle, Anthropic's Head of Forward Deployed Engineering, Americas, said Ode was built to be the implementation partner mid-size companies need as they move from experimenting with AI to building it into operations2.
What does Ode actually do for clients?
Anthropic's description is the clearest. A typical engagement starts with a small team working closely with the customer to find where Claude can have the biggest impact. The company's engineers, alongside Anthropic Applied AI staff, then build Claude-powered systems tailored to that organization's operations1. Anthropic's worked example is a multi-site healthcare services group, like a network of physician practices, where clinicians spend hours each day on documentation, medical coding, prior authorizations and compliance reviews; an engagement might begin with the engineering team sitting down with clinicians and IT staff to build tools that fit the workflows they already use. The intended customers include community banks, mid-sized manufacturers and regional health systems that lack in-house resources for frontier deployments, while Claude Partner Network integrators serve the largest enterprises1.
Ode's press page shows named work since the July launch:
- Baker Tilly (July 20). Ode will work with the firm to design and implement AI-powered systems that support employees across its advisory, tax and assurance businesses10.
- PointClickCare (August 13). Frontier models integrated into PointClickCare's platform for administrative workflows, with authorization work as the stated focus and clinician oversight kept in the loop. Ode says work is already underway and calls PointClickCare its first senior care platform partner11.
- Casper Studios (August 20). Ode says it handles complex custom-engineered projects, while Casper builds skills, connectors and context inside Anthropic products. For a shared client, Sphera, Ode's release says a custom tool built on Anthropic's models cut bottlenecks in time-intensive operational tasks by 70% for a key part of Sphera's business. That is Ode's own claim and it gives no method8.
The documents describe Anthropic's engineers consistently: alongside Ode's, not instead of them. The May 21 release says Fractional's engineers would work with Anthropic's Applied AI organization from day one3. The July release says engineers from Anthropic, together with the Fractional team, form Ode's operational core2. Ode's website says it collaborates closely with Anthropic's Applied AI team12. What the documents do not say is how many Anthropic engineers are involved, whether they stay on Anthropic's payroll, or how engagements are priced.
Anthropic also hires forward deployed engineers directly, on its own go-to-market team. Its Staff Forward Deployed Engineer posting includes leading engagements delivered with partners and setting the quality bar for work the engineer does not build personally; it does not mention Ode13.
How does Ode compare with the OpenAI Deployment Company?
OpenAI announced its own version on May 11, 2026, a week after Anthropic's post14,1. The two differ most in what has been published:
| Dimension | Ode with Anthropic | OpenAI Deployment Company |
|---|---|---|
| Announced | May 4, 2026, unnamed; named July 15, 20261,2 | May 11, 202614 |
| Structure | Standalone company; the releases give no ownership split2 | Standalone business unit, majority-owned and controlled by OpenAI14 |
| Backers named | Anthropic, Blackstone and H&F, with Goldman Sachs, Apollo, General Atlantic, GIC, Leonard Green and Sequoia1,2 | A partnership of OpenAI and 19 firms, led by TPG, with Advent, Bain Capital and Brookfield as co-lead founding partners; Goldman Sachs is also named14 |
| Capital stated | None in the releases we read | More than $4 billion of initial investment14 |
| Firm that seeded the engineering team | Fractional AI, acquired in May 2026; terms undisclosed3 | Tomoro, about 150 forward deployed engineers and deployment specialists; the deal was subject to closing conditions at announcement14 |
| Customers named as the focus | Mid-size companies1 | Organizations working on complex problems; no company size stated14 |
| Link to the parent's engineers | Anthropic Applied AI engineers work alongside Ode's1 | An extension of OpenAI, connected to its in-house deployment teams14 |
The sharpest difference on paper is disclosure: OpenAI states majority ownership and a capital figure, and the Anthropic-side documents do not. That describes what is published, not what the deals contain. Each was paired with a services-firm acquisition within weeks: OpenAI agreed to acquire Tomoro as part of its launch, and the Anthropic-side venture announced the Fractional AI deal 17 days after its first post14,3. OpenAI uses the forward deployed engineer title for its staff directly14, while Ode's documents lean on applied AI and AI transformation wording, and its job board on October 23 listed forward deployed product managers but no forward deployed engineers5. Our OpenAI Deployment Company explainer covers that side in full.
What does Ode pay, and who is it hiring?
Ode's job board listed 14 open full-time positions on October 23, 2026: five in commercial, five in engineering, two in product, one in business operations and one in talent5. Its postings give a San Francisco headquarters and offices in New York, Raleigh-Durham and Dubai6. Ten of the 14 listings carry a posted annual pay range. The table groups nine of them into four role types; a tenth, for a recruiting coordinator, lists $90K to $120K5.
| Role | Posted range | What the posting says |
|---|---|---|
| Forward Deployed Product Manager (SF/NY), plus a financial services variant | $200K to $275K | A forward-deployed, full-stack product management role that combines product, engagement and delivery management; the range is labeled the estimated total cash compensation6 |
| Associate Principal, AI Transformation | $200K to $250K | Commercial team role, listed in San Francisco and New York; the range carries no label5 |
| Principal, AI Transformation (general, healthcare and life sciences, financial services and semiconductor versions) | $400K to $450K | Described as a fractional Chief AI Transformation Officer for clients; Principals also win and grow the business; the range is labeled the estimated compensation range, with no base or total stated7 |
| Staff Software Engineer (San Francisco and New York listings) | $275K to $400K | San Francisco posting: roughly 75% of time in code and 25% with clients, on a team of 2 to 5 engineers and a PM; 8+ years of experience asked; the range is labeled the estimated total cash compensation, and the New York listing posts the same range15,16 |
These are posted ranges at one employer at one moment. The product manager and staff engineer postings call theirs the estimated total cash compensation, a term the postings do not define. The principal postings say only "estimated compensation range," and the associate principal and recruiting coordinator listings give no label, so for those the board does not say whether the range is base salary or total cash. Each range carries an "Offers Equity" flag without a value5. The North Carolina staff engineer listing shows no range. For a reference point from a different employer and job, Anthropic's own Staff Forward Deployed Engineer posting lists an annual salary of $280,000 to $320,000 and notes that for sales roles the range is on-target earnings13. Treat neither as a market rate.
The postings also describe the work. Ode's engineering posting says a typical engineer ships two to three products a year and cites more than 30 AI products shipped, a self-reported figure; it adds that candidates may not like the pace and recommends using the interview process to hear what Ode's engineers think15. A separate listing, "Bring Your Own Engineering Team," invites existing teams of two to five engineers to interview and receive offers together17.
What do we still not know about Ode with Anthropic?
- Capital and valuation. No release states committed capital or a valuation. The only dollar amounts in the H&F releases are the firm-wide assets under management of Blackstone and H&F and a "multi-trillion-dollar gap" in a quote about the market; none is funding for Ode2,3. If you see a funding number for Ode elsewhere, check whether it traces to a company release; none of the releases we read contains one.
- Ownership and control. Anthropic, Blackstone and H&F introduced Ode, but no document gives their shares or says who controls it2.
- Goldman Sachs's role. Named alongside the announcing partners on May 4, listed in the investor consortium in the May 21 and July 15 releases1,3,2.
- Size and revenue. No headcount, revenue or client count has been published in the documents we read2,12.
- Deal terms. The Fractional AI release says terms were not disclosed, and the Casper Studios release states no price3,8.
What the documents do show is that two AI labs each put forward deployed work into a separate services company with outside capital, within a week of each other. For the public-sector side of forward deployed hiring, see our explainer on the forward deployed engineer role under US Tech Force.

Questions about this story
Who is the CEO of Ode with Anthropic?
Chris Taylor is CEO and Eddie Siegel is CTO, according to the July 15, 2026 launch release. Both co-founded Fractional AI, the firm Ode is built on, and held the same titles there.
Is Ode with Anthropic owned by Anthropic?
Anthropic is one of three firms that introduced Ode, with Blackstone and Hellman & Friedman, backed by an investor consortium. None of the releases we read gives ownership percentages or says who controls Ode, so the ownership split is not public in those documents. Ode's job postings describe it as Anthropic's services venture.
How much funding does Ode with Anthropic have, and what is it worth?
The releases do not say. The $965 billion figure is Anthropic's own post-money valuation from its May 28, 2026 Series H, not Ode's. The Fractional AI release says terms were not disclosed, and the Casper Studios release states no price.
Is Ode with Anthropic hiring, and what does it pay?
Yes. Its job board listed 14 open full-time roles on October 23, 2026. Posted ranges included $200,000 to $275,000 for forward deployed product managers and $275,000 to $400,000 for staff software engineers, which those postings call the estimated total cash compensation, and each is flagged as offering equity. Other postings, such as the principal roles at $400,000 to $450,000, do not say whether the range is base pay or total cash.
Is Ode with Anthropic the same as Claude Code?
No. Claude Code is an Anthropic product. Ode is a separate services company that builds systems for clients using Anthropic's models, working alongside Anthropic's Applied AI staff, according to its own description and Anthropic's announcement.
